It's on their website under School Profile.

NP here. Is that recent information? As in within the past 2 years, since the new head of school and division heads started?

Kids left after 8th grade 2 two years ago to go to magnet schools. Told they were great in all subjects except math and that they are still not caught up with peers in math. Math/science magnet.

Yet they were accepted to the math/science magnet, so they and the school must be doing something right.

Not here to argue. Just sharing info from a friend and trying to learn from the experiences of others who've been there, not hearsay.

So if this was two years ago, it was before before all the administrative changes. The kids got into the Blair math/science magnet, or is there another magnet for science and math?

FWIW, a neuropsychologist urged us to send DC to McLean in part for math acceleration, because many independent elementary schools don't offer it.

Doublecheck this (neuropsychs often have no idea what is actually going on in schools) before selecting a school. Our DC came out of McLean middle school several years ago behind in math and never caught up. He's still behind his cohorts in college. But, then, he may have been behind in math wherever he had gone because of his SNs.

It is more helpful to hear from current McLean parents than former parents whose info is several years old. There have a lot of changes at McLean under the new head of school.

Thanks. If your child left McLean in middle school and is now in college, he left quite a long time ago. I'm trying to share current information based on our experience. We did move our child to McLean and DC is now in accelerated math.

We left Mclean school 3 years ago for public MS. In no way was our child at grade level for MS math. A year of tutoring was necessary just to catch them up. And this was a child that supposedly was at the top of the class mathematically at Mclean. It took public MS and lot of tutoring dollars to get them caught up. DC now will be starting geometry in 9th grade which is middle of the road. half the class will either be doing Algebra 2 or Pre calculus.

This was our experience. DC was behind. And Michael Saxenian (new HOS) has only been in place since July of 2014 so am confused how McLean PP boosters think the middle school math program can suddenly be accelerated over night????

I think he is in his second year as HOS, actually. Same as heads of middle and lower, right? All new two years ago.

Darlene left fall of 2013, right?

Mike S has been there since July 2013.

From thread Sounds like child would have required tutoring no matter what school he attended
