A Brigham Young report says that something other than drinking causes drinking?? Wow. What next, a Tobacco Institute report that says smoking is unrelated to smoking ???

I went to University of Richmond in the days where all dorms were single sex and the boys and girls were separated by a lake... we all binge drank. |
I had plenty of sex in college. Never once in my dorm room. |
oops this is about drinking, not sex. Agree don't see the connection.
I also drank plenty in college, rarely in my dorm room. |
In the 70's the coed dorms were arranged by coed floors, alternating suites. No big deal. What parents don't understand is it was very uncool to date/hook-up with our floor brothers. Out of 160 coeds, there was maybe 1 involved couple.
Parents worry about the wrong thing. |
Single sex dorms wouldn't even curb co-Ed sex. Dumb story. People drink when they are awake not when they are sleeping |
I went to the article looking for the citation, and was directed to another news article on th study. Anyone have the study citation? |
Wanna curb bi ge drinking? Lower the drinking age. |
I went to a women's college where there was enough binge drinking that at the big parties there would be an ambulance parked outside all night and EMTs circulating at the party to check for people who were passed out drunk. I haven't read the study, but I would think that at a school where students could choose either mixed sex or single sex house, students would tend to self select with more socially conservative students choosing the single sex dorms. So it may be that students less likely to binge drink are more likely to chose single sex dorms, rather than that single sex dorms influence students not to binge drink. |
Yeah, I don't care what you do about the dorm situation. When I was in college I had sex three times in a single sex dorm. |
That doesn't make any sense. It's not like kids will suddenly start acting more responsibly with alcohol if it's permissible. |

College presidents have been trying to lower the drinking age for years because under age drinkers binge drink hard alcohol. http://www.usnews.com/opinion/articles/2014/05/07/lower-the-us-drinking-age-to-reduce-binge-drinking-and-sexual-assault http://www.nbcnews.com/id/26271328/ns/us_news-life/t/college-presidents-seek-drinking-age-debate/ |
Drinking would be worse in single-sex dorms, a whole lot worse. |
I actually think single sex or co-Ed dorms have zero impact on the drinking scene. Those assumptions are way out of date |
