If you leave things out in front of your porch they may be taken. How is that not the simplest answer to OP's rant? |

Footprints in snow
snow shovel gone people suck -- so sad |
OP here. I wasn't ranting. I was venting--I was a tad surprised, annoyed after a long day, and wondering if anyone had had similar things happen. I was looking for some helpful insight, and lots of nice posters weighed in, which was extremely helpful and made me feel better. |
| OP, I had the EXACT thing happen. I left my new shovel next to the front door (never thought twice about it), and I came outside to find it had been taken and replaced with an old rusty metal one that was probably thirty years old. I thought one of those guys who rings your doorbell and asks to shovel snow had taken it. I didn't suspect the neighbors. But I looked closely at their snow shovels, just in case. |
| We actually had this happen also. Our brand new snow shovel was "replaced" by a crappy old rusted metal one. Although, that was nothing compared to when our car was stolen, stripped and dumped in an alley--everything was taken from it including our stroller, the airbags, the stereo and some old tennis rackets. The kicker was when two months later I got a parking ticket (that had doubled) that was written about two hours after we reported the car stolen. |
You obviously weren't a Seinfeld fan. Top o' the muffin, anyone? On a past thread, I remember outraged posters complaining that charity clients' self-esteems would be irrevocably damaged if they received worn or stained clothes. The shovel thing is bizarre. |

wow, this sucks and is funny all at the same time. i left my shovel outside on monday, but usually don't because of the paranoia that someone would steal it.
i can actually beat your story. a couple years ago, the recycling company handed out new recycling bins to replace our old ones from another company. They were free. I'm someone who actually takes recycling seriously, so I use mine every week. Well, the first week I put it out, someone took it! Seriously! who takes a freakin' free recycling bin? what are they using it for? didn't they get their own? why would they need two? i was really annoyed. |

I know it's wrong but this goes to show how bad my day has been: the thought of someone just walking up a driveway and switching out shovels made me laugh.
I know it sux for you, but hey, at least you venting about it made someone smile

Eco thieves hit us, too, but replaced our sturdy bin with some dirty, disgusting, flimsy one. |
Have you never seen trash or recycling get collected? They just toss the bins and trashcans wherever. Your neighbor got yours because the trash man threw it in their driveway. I got a brand new trash can that way recently. Lid fits and everything. I hope my neighbors don't think I stole it from them, whoever they are. |

I have your shovel.
Don't call the police and nobody gets hurt! HAHAHA |
| Why would OP call the police? They're doing a brisk business in black market gardening tools. |
| wanna know what? This same thing happened to me a few days ago. Except.. Different. The shovel was in my garage. They went into my garage, took my shovel, and replaced with a crappier one. it was the same color too, yellow, which was odd. I know who did it. My neighbor across the street's kid. But they think he does no wrong. So if you haven't solved it, think logically. Is someone going to drive up to your house, take out their shovel, swap it and go back? No. They live by you. Who else walks around town in the night with a shovel? I'm pissed as hell. Broke into the garage and swapped shovels.. wtf |
Not to worry. When dear neighbor kid is an adult and has a long rap sheet, dear neighbors will wish they had done something different with their kid. |
| I'm sure the OP's shovel is easily explained. Someone grabbed a few shovels that were sitting outside to dig out a car or whatever, and they mixed up whose was whose. One of your (innocent) neighbors was probably given your new shovel by mistake. |
