...That our IB Title 1 DCPS isn't so bad after all. In fact, it exceeded our expectations.

I have no regrets at all, but I thought I would chime in because my experience is the opposite. I am so thankful that I didn't pay too much attention to the commute issues, went with my gut and didn't trust DCPS to create good schools out of bad. After several years, the nearby DCPS schools haven't gotten any better, I've seen promises made and broken over and over, and the quality in the upper grades (not preschool to kindergarten) remains pretty terrible. The commute has been an issue at times, as the school, which has moved, has at times been 45 minutes to an hour away during rush hour, but it has been well worth it to see my child getting such a great education. On the other hand, I could easily see how that may not be true for everyone. Just something to think about.

Which school(s)?
I'm curious whether the experiences people share represent different views of the same schools or possibly differences between schools.

We got into a HRCS, and the DCPS schools that I am comparing to are most of the eastern Ward 2 and northern Ward 6 schools.

This is us. The commute which I thought would be a big deal, turned out not to be as stressful and the IB school which parents had committed to attend now lays as a wasteland.

You live in my neighborhood!

Understanding the value of neighborhood schools.

In situations where there are 2 hour delays we are stuck taking 1/2 day of PTO. If we were at our neighborhood school we could partner with another family and drop the kids off. No one from our neighborhood attends our charter so we are solo all the time.

We have gone back on forth on switching. Still have not decided what is best for our family.

Same for our family, and we are at HD Cooke.

Yes. We weighed commute heavily, ended up not getting into any charters, and are delighted with our IB DCPS--Garrison. (And now I spend my time working to get the new building to happen, but that's a story for another thread.)

They don't post in the DC forums any more b/c they all moved to VA when they couldn't lottery in anywhere good.

I think the issue is that anyone who's youngest is older than four has experience that pre-dates the common lottery, which doesn't really apply now.
