Colgate is a Midd backup school.
NESCAC schools are less attractive because people don't want to pay $240k for their child's undergrad education. It's no longer a golden ticket to the UMC lifestyle. |
What's the UMC lifestyle? |
If you went to a LAC you'd know it is flagship not Flagship. |
And before you go off, that's the difference between a white shoe company and hanging a shingle in Thurmont. |
Sorry. I did not go to either. I went to nursing school. |
Upper middle class |
Midd is tough to get into....not sure why its such a big draw....but the post didn't want academics .....we visited both schools....Midd Kids a bit more crunchy but Colgate is a fall back to MIdd....the Colgate kids were really pretty close in character/behavior etc. Really can't pass judgment on scholastics |
Great programs. Great academic and recreational facilities. Beautiful campus and setting. Etc. |
I agree with your second statement 100%, but not your first. Are acceptance rates and/or strength of matriculating students falling? Because that's the test for your first statement. |
They were never priced for the average family. |
Yes, but it used to be closer due to many economic factors. |
With all of their talk about financial aid...they certainly hold themselves out as being for the "average family" even though they really don't.... |
Colgate is preppy. Midd is crunchy. |
Colgate seems to be more athletic more "jockey' as my D would put it. She liked it a lot but did not like the isolated location so ruled it out, ditto Middlebury, we didn't even look at it...its very very small. And I think attracts a more granola kind of kids![]() |
Midd has preppy types and granola types. At least, it did ten years ago. |
