You act like we said you can't have a cookie for dessert. Most people, especially with kids to support, don't just quit their job because the fancy strikes them. You don't have the money to do it. |
| I totally get your desire to take a break but TRUST ME, you will be more worried and end up with zero relaxation if you choose that route. You may not realize it but being a single mom having a nice job of 80k is a hugely relaxing thing in itself. Just try to adjust your perspective and good luck! |
| serious question - exactly how would you pay your bills (including debt payments) without your job? If you can break even - and you KNOW you have a job in the fall - maybe. but please answer this first. |
oh and also let us know how you would cover health insurance. |
Dog walking, duh |
| This is nuts. OP should get a second job to pay down credit cards and other debt. |
| OP, you didn't answer my question as to what you have saved up for retirement. Are you avoiding the question? I really hope you have a plan for that, or it's going to be a very long time until you can afford to quit your job, if ever. |
| I also wish I could quit my well paying job and do whatever I like...unfortunately there is no way.... |
|
Retirement savings poor.
-OP |
| So this was a troll post, then? |
| No I figure I can work hard at the next job in the fall with some side business money makers in place |
| So how do you propose to support yourself and your child while continuing to pay on your debt? Using the $3000 in savings and earnings from dog walking? |
| Troll |
You don't have the money to get to fall is the point. Even IF there was a guarantes job waiting then (and you don't know that) you wouldn't make it. You have about two months expenses at the outside. And that's assuming no emergencies crop up during your "sabbatical" like a surgery or car repairs or something. I'm far from one of these typical DCUMers with $2 million in retirement and $600k sitting in savings but even I see how foolish this idea is. You flat out do not have the money. And how are you supposed to get new businesses off the ground? You have no capital! Were you going to raid your equity? Have you even looked into doing that- the money is not actually sitting in the walls of your house to retrieve at will. The whole idea is just a folly. If it's not a troll post, I really don't know where your head is. |

OP, I would only do this if:
1. I had a written agreement that I could take LWOP or a new job starting in 6 months, 2. I had at least 80k saved in savings, AND 3. I had a backup plan for health insurance. |
