At What Age Do You Stop Covering DC's Eyes When Animals Mate on TV?

Yeah, I think my 5 yo DS figured out things by watching these shows. He asked DH, 'Do we mate?' and DH said yes, expecting more questions, which haven't come yet.

Hopefully he does not think that humans mate the same way right whales do, which is like a gang bang with 12 foot penises.

Wait until you get the question, "Is there a show where they have people mating?"

No. No there is not.

And don't try the internet, either.

I've never covered their eyes. If you don't want then to see it, don't watch it. Ridiculous.

You are shielding their eyes from science.

Well, I would have had to have every STARTED in order to stop. You're weird OP

What I can't stand are the non-stop Viagra and Cialis commercials at all times of day. My 5 year old asked me what erectile dysfunction is.

Haha
I am dreading this for when we are watching baseball with our kiddo and he's able to pick up on it! There is no way I am not going to laugh. No chance. Parental fail.

Never covered them ever!

A 5 year old is very different than an 8 and 10 year old. I will assume your son will learn about human sex before he's 8.

Never. My kids knew how babies are made since they were around 4-5.

It's natural for kids to be grossed out at that age. They'll get over it.

This week my kid asked me what "porn" is. I explained that it is pictures of people having sex. Not for kids to look at. End of story.

LOL, yeah, that's a great question and a thoroughly awkward moment, isn't it? We got a variant of that.

Our response was that people and animals think differently about some things, and that humans usually have a lot of big and important feelings attached to s*xual intercourse. Therefore, for people -- but not for animals -- sexual behavior should be a very private thing just between the two people who are sharing both the mating and the special emotions together just between them. It would be very disrespectful and wrong to watch a show about people mating because human sexual behavior should be private and we respect people's privacy.

Yes, there are those shows. They are called p*rn. Some grownups choose to watch those shows, but we think that is a very bad, wrong choice and a big mistake. And those shows definitely are not OK for kids ever.

11:22 your answer is good with a glaring exception. People watching porn is not bad, wrong or a big mistake. It is something some people feel the need to do, and as long as no one is hurt by it there is nothing wrong with it. It would not be my choice, like many things in life that are legal but not to everyone's liking.

Do they not yet know how babies are made??

I'm not op, but I get where op is coming from. I have a 9 year old. He's never asked how babies are made. He's asked about other things, but never how babies are made. Just recently our dog was in heat. He had some questions about that and I found it a lot easier to explain reproduction to him when it was about the dog. When the time comes, I will probably explain it like another pp said "people mate too" and then discuss any questions he has.

I find it really odd when people explain sexual intercourse to very young children. Yes, answer questions, but I find a lot of it very inappropriate until they are close to puberty and start asking.

When the time comes? Yikes. He's 9. He definitely knows about sex. Hell I remember being 10 when my parents tried to have the convo with me. I remember thinking they were dumb as mud because I'd (Catholic school girl) known about sex for years.

ha, I've got one…when I was a kid, we were on a field trip to a California mission for some event, and two parade burros (donkeys) got loose from their float, and ran up to the mission and mated in front of all us kids. Wow, that was one heck of a shlong!

Thanks, everyone. I spit my lunch onto my keyboard thinking about 12 foot penises and Donkey Schlongs.
