Hugs, OP. I was away at college when it became clear my mother was nearing the end. Family friends drove four hours up to get me, and four hours back in the middle of the night to get me home. I got home at 5am, she passed at 3pm that afternoon. I'm forever grateful for their efforts that allowed me to be with her at that time.

Last thanksgiving I had to make an unexpected trip home to take care of my dying father. He died December 4 and in those 6 days I drugged the shit out of him, made root beer floats, and eventually gave him tequila. We had 2 days where is as able to get some information from him that we would need, watched Home Alone one more time, and that was it. We knew when it was coming and it was a very peaceful thing.

I lost my brother to brain cancer. The hospice stage was by far the most painful time of my life, when everything stood still and it didn't make sense that the rest of the world was still turning. You're in the thick of it but just try to remember that you will not always feel this way. Hang in there. I'm so sorry.
