I was in CA (Laguna) for a conference once when Copper River salmon was in season, I had a pasta made with it that I remember to this day. Never knew salmon could taste like that.

Saw that there is frozen wild caught salmon at Wal-mart and Aldi.

Costco was carrying fresh wild salmon over the summer/early fall and it was SO good. We can't go back to their frozen wild salmon. Just not the same. I regret not buying more because I assumed it would always be there.

Not all salmon is frozen on the boat. Some fishermen in SE Alaska will pressure bleed them with ice water on the boat and then ice them down and take them directly to the airport. We order direct from a fisherman and get fish shipped via Alaska Air that is only a day or two old. It's not cheap, but we order several whole fish and freeze the fillets in vacuum-sealed bags and eat them all year. You do have to be ready to buy when the run is on. I do think there are fishmongers here who get truly fresh fish, but it is very hit or miss. Trident frozen filets are the next best thing.
