People in the DMV area live in there own little Ivy bubble. Yea, I know, people in SV live in their own high tech bubble, but that's where most of the high tech jobs are, and since this post is about high tech, PP post was really stupid.

It makes sense to go to a univ. that has a good dept. in the area that you want to study, and not just some name brand school. The general public may recognize your name brand school, but people in certain industries don't care about general name brand. They generally know which schools have a strong CS dept - like SJSU.

Hullo. Apple is in Cupertino, California, hence all the California Colleges and Universities. And if you go to the Dulles Corridor you will find George Mason and Virginia Tech grads. Duh.

Apple or Google vs. mostly gov't related ...hmmmm? Let me think about that for a sec? If I were interested in high tech jobs, recent college grad, which would I prefer? Gosh, such a hard choice.

Why do you have such a problem with people working where they want? It has absolutely nothing to do with you, and I doubt anyone here would seek you out for employment advice.

I bet if one of these companies offered you a job you'd jump at it. And in gov't IT, maybe they are not as arrogant (no cause to be), but there are certainly enough nerdy males.

I don't think. I work in the academe and have a very sweet thing going on. There are nerdy males everywhere of course but nowhere as many as in SV which doesn't appeal to me at all.

When I think HYP, I do not think computer science or engineering.
DH works at Google and previously Microsoft. Historically his peers came from MIT, Carnegie Mellon, Stanford, Berkeley etc...
