Are you an "expert" in a topic you refuse to discuss on DCUM?

+1. I don't answer questions about it. I get more than enough people in real life who want to tell me all their tax woes as soon as they find out what I do.

LOL! All the experts on here.

Yup. Doctor

Yes. Relationship therapist. I learned long ago that most people on this forum aren't receptive to my advice when they post in the relationship forum.

Historian. Sometimes pipe up but not often.

I am also a dog trainer who refrains from posting in the Pets forum. So much nonsense...

Yes, on financial issues and investing.

I don't offer advice for the most part because it is a no win situation. If it works out, they think they are geniuses and if it does not they blame me.

Besides, a very savvy - and nationally renowned - trader from whom I learned a great deal once told me that you can give a person advice that would pretty much guarantee that he/she will make money if they do exactly what you tell them. But they will always try and fine-tune it in some way or the other and end up losing money.

Absolutely.

To try and give advice on this board and to be shot down by randoms who love Redfin, think they know everything there is to know about real estate when sadly they are totally misinformed based on what they post - no thanks. For example check the "s/o what conveys and what doesn't" thread right now. Everyone thinks they know!

Since you all seem to be such fans of Redfin agents, I will leave the advice giving to them. Oddly, I don't think I have seen too many give advice on this board, if any.

The Redfin agents are too busy with their second jobs as servers in restaurants and nannies to give advice about real estate.

And what is your expertise, my dear? Certainly not writing or humor or sarcasm or -- anything!

Whats an expert? I work for NASA and realize everyday how little I know.

Anonymous wrote:Kind of. I'm an airline safety director. I post frequently about child restraint systems on airplanes and how important I think it is, and I get people arguing about how it doesn't matter at all. I don't mind when people say you're safer flying than driving (true) but I do mind when people trot out outdated stats or guidance or try to say that if you go down, you're going to all die anyway (the overwhelming majority of aviation accidents have survivors - little known fact...). Just generally speaking, the other thing people want to talk to me about is how expensive airfares have gotten, when they're the steal of the century compared to what they were 20 / 30 years ago. But, everyone has an opinion on traveling...

I'd love to know more about airline safety. Like: What's the best way to survive a crash? And what's the biggest misconception about flying and safety that you wish people understood better?

Yes. I won't discuss it.

I sometimes post when people say things like "oh lead paint is not a problem unless your kid is chewing on the windowsill"

In general when I have the urge to post on anything I stop and ask myself whether I think the OP will really pay any attention to what I am saying and probably 4/5 times I end up not posting.

I am an "expert" in a tiny field of medicine and I"ll post about it. I'm using giving facts along with a link to "prove" the fact so it all works out.
