Comparison shopping - Walmart vs. Wegman's

Anonymous
My primary focus when it comes to any kind of shopping is - getting the most for my money. And after very thorough testing I can confidently say that Wegmans emerges as my top choice - absolutely no question. It is has high quality, many choices, friendly staff...it is overall a great place to shop. I tried Alid's and I am sorry but I don't like it, it is pretty crappy and it feels extremely cheap. Wal-mart is just depressing to me. I think Wegmans strikes a very nice balance of providing quality products in a personal sort of a way.
Giant and Shoppers is ok but Wegmnas delivers a much higher quality of meats, cheese, bread, wine...and much more. Try it, you won't regret it.

how do you know tha? Source?

I don't believe this.

I wouldn't either. Especially when it isn't true, SOUNDS dumb, and their response to a request for a Verifiable source was "everybody knows this."

Which usually means it's something some lying soccer mom just made up to satisfy her own biases.

Is this revive old threads day or something?

Walmart doesn't make their own products - they get their products from Nestle, P&G, etc. Just like everyone else. They make money by selling volume, and lots of it. They negotiate aggressively with vendors. They eat their own margins if it means selling more volume, and yes - they do have loss leaders to get people into the store. If you're going in to buy a fresh turkey, chances are ours buying toilet paper, stuffing, tin foil, cranberries, etc. For example as most people won't bother shopping around for single items.

-DH works for Walmart (shocker, I know!)

I save a lot by buying things at Harris teeter when they are buy one get one free. You can just buy one, and it will ring 1/2 price.

This is pretty common knowledge. It's not just true of WalMart, though. They're just a particularly good (or bad, I guess) example of price points driving down quality. It's like how a lot of brands make lower quality goods specifically for their outlets.

That is not exactly a source.
