At what age is it ok for kids to cook by themselves (with no adult home?)

+1, and I'm a bit younger than you.

I was shallow-frying alone at age 12. Granted, that was after a lot of practice and supervision.

Start practicing and having them shadow at a young age. Cooking is an essential life skill.

My kids are younger and can cook dinner (baked chicken, rice or potatoes, and steamed veggies or salad). I definitely think children need to learn to cook.

You are over scheduling your kids. No family meals because hours of activities are more important? Lame

Hm. 30 years ago, I was 17, and did cook family dinners. However 12 year olds weren't expected to do so.

But I was from a middle class family.
