Pinworms anyone?

Anonymous
my preschooler had them this past winter. it was horrible. we all took the medication and i did LOADS of laundry in hot water for what seemed like days on end. i don't remember doing all this extra cleaning though (toys et al). the 2 doses of medication worked. i did stock up on extra OTC medication b/c the prescription stuff (which was $200+) took a day to come in. so i had to live a night knowing that worms were crawling around -- shudders!

Search it on Amazon. Also search Permaguard on Amazon, the best company for food grade DE.

NP here, do these come from pets and sandboxes?

I took some medicine, and my mom wouldn't let me have syrup with my pancakes because she said the worms liked the sugar too much. Not sure if that part was true or not.

Not true but your mom is brilliant.

Good luck OP!

Revising this old thread. The otc medicine worked for my kids, but not for me. Then the prescription medication seemed to work, but then they came back. I am ocd with the cleaning cleaning. What more can I do? 6 months of this insanity.

I don't think they ever really go away. Not great news, I know. After cutting sugar put of.my diet I haven't experienced symptoms so I'm hoping they're gone but who knows.

Are these things going around? Actress Kristen bell complained she got them from her kids.

Did you keep taking it every few weeks? I took 3 doses, 1 every 2 weeks, for my son's to go away. My understanding is that for the life cycle to continue you need to keep ingesting the eggs. If you don't keep ingesting them then they will eventually go away on their own.

That's what I did. It is not fun. It was during the summer for me so not as much bedding but it was still a pain.

I have never heard of these. Saw the pics on Google and am pretty terrified. No offense but I am African American, and this isn't something that's been discussed in my community with my friends or family, that I can recall.

Do these worms tend to show up in certain age groups, or places? How can I prevent my middle schooler from getting these?

If one person in the house has them everyone should be treated whether they have symptoms or not. It's not a matter of hygiene. Kids have them and they pass it around.

Anecdotely, the couple time our kids got them they seemed to be attending summer camps.

Also, after the deworming (single dose medicine), make sure you wash all bedding, towels, clothing that came in contact with the butt - pjs, underwear in the hottest water.

Everyone needs to clip down their nails too (mom included). Lysol the toilets as well.

Make all their friends wash their hands when they come to your house. They could be getting it from other people as well. Do you have people visit you (family or friends) that have poor hygiene?

Zombie thread but I’m bringing it back because damn, I think *i* have them! My kids seem fine; they’re not complaining about an itchy butt and they would totally tell me or wake me up at night.

Heeeelp.
