I don't think it's been announced yet (at least not on DCUM, which is usually first to know!)

It has not been announced yet. Interviews were held less than 1 week ago.

Hey Hearst? Can you please be like Lafayette and give the PK kids a full first week. Most of them are probably coming from daycare and preschool and their parents would really like the help and not have to find another week of child care.

Come on new principal, you know you want to.

It is inappropriate for anyone on the selection panel to talk about who was selected. It is the chancellor that makes the final decision, and the selection panel is confidential.

What is the timeline for the announcement?

I am on a selection committee for another school. They said each candidate needs to interview at all the schools they are slated to interview with, and then the Chancellor makes a decision. So it is typically a couple of weeks after the interview. If 2 schools out as the top choice the same candidate, then the Chancellor has to choose the best fit.

Are you satisfied with the applicant pool?

Anyone from Mann or Thompson remember her? Impressions?

We are so thrilled Ms Thomas is joining the Hearst community and look forward to working with her to continue building on the tremendous progress the school has made to this point.

Watch out JKLMM - H is nipping at your heels

(In a friendly, supportive, we are all winners kind of way of course!)

She was unanimously recommended by the hiring committee at Hearst which was made up of parents, teachers, staff, union reps, and community members. She certainly made an impression on this group. The Hearst community looks forward to personally welcoming her to what we believe is the best little school in the District.

What, specifically, was the impression that she made? What are her goals?

First off, it is undoubtedly preferable to allow Ms. Thomas to speak to the community directly which she indicated she'd be eager to do as part of the process of getting to know the Hearst community. For now, I'd simply add that through the interview process the Hearst hiring team heard a number of things from Ms Thomas which indicated she would be a great fit given the values and traditions embedded at Hearst . For example and including but not limited too - cultivating a supportive social environment coupled with academic rigor, key tenets of the Responsive Classroom approach to behavior management, an empathy and understanding of the need to be flexible on how and when to foster parent engagement - particularly nuanced in a community like Hearst with lots of families with different backgrounds. And perhaps most important, initially at least, a desire to listen to all stakeholders about what they feel is working and what is not.

Go Owls!
