How much is enough in the bank to stay at home?

I've been a sahm for many years. When I had my first dh made 40k we made it work. We don't live in dc but in a much cheaper part of the country. It's all about priorities.

Who cares? You aren't going to need those hundreds of thousands in retirement. By most standards, you are more than set for life. Retire now if that's what will make you happy. Even if it "throws off" only 100k per year, you could live on that without touching the principal, especially if your DH keeps working.
