Does anyone have any experience with junior boarding schools?

I'm in interested in junior boarding schools because of factors such as diversity, single gender education, and a structured academic environment. I am considering local schools as well, however the middle grades can be a tough time. So I don't want a school that focuses on the upper grades.

You can get all of those things in many private schools here. What is the rush to get rid of your child at 13? Sad. Be a parent and be there for your child in his most important years.

Agree. Seem selfish unless there is no other option.

Our perfectly normal and happy DC asked for junior boarding school. We said to wait and look for high school. It's now high school and DC is still interested, so even though as parents we don't want to miss DC (and siblings think it's a silly idea because life in our home and environment is so good), we are letting DC look. And warming to the idea of it for high school (not younger). It will have nothing to do with trouble at home or any other school if DC goes. It will be because DC is mature enough to want an immersion-college type experience that we think will help develop DC's full potential.

Sorry to hijack.

This isn't helpful to the OP, but there are boarding schools in DC:

None for a seventh grader in DC, for good reason. That's too young, unless there are severe issues, OP.
