What are the big 3?

Anonymous
Oh, come on, everybody knows the Big 3 are Larry, Moe and Curly.

Actually NCS academic rankings (SAT, Elite College entrances, etc.) are just below Sidwell but higher than St. A. NCS is a Big 3 on it's own merit. Being paired with St. A is an added plus but NCS stands alone!

Who gives a Big Whoop?

None of the NCS posters have still addressed how can a single sex school take up a whole ranking?

Big 3? Are you talking about endowment?

There is no "Big 3." The Ivies have a Big 3. The automakers have a Big 3. There is no "big 3" of DC- area private high schools/elementary schools.

Aren't they one and the same? (Tho' I slept through transubstantiation in CCD.)

No, the Big Three are:

1. Eat healthfully
2. Exercise
3. Get plenty of sleep.

Or maybe it's the Big Four if you include:

4. Visit dDCUM at least once a day for a good laugh - lowers your blood pressure!

Do people ever use this term out side of DCUM? My DC attends a big 3 school....sounds ridiculous! And my DC actually attends what some consider a big 3.
Anonymous
People should be mortified to use such a term or anything like it. Again, pathetic.

First, this board is follish. Second, Sidwell, STA and NCS are in a league of their own based on college placement and NMSF. GDS and Maret, although great schools, are not in the same league.

I really don't care one way or the other who people consider a "big 3" school, but I find the discussion interesting that so many people feel so strongly about this. One observation from an outsider looking in is that while there seems to be a lot of debate about what consists of the "Big 3" there seems to be no debate the one school always makes the cut. Maybe there is just a "Big One" and then a pool of other very excellent schools.

So you're saying it would be follish to send a child to GDS or Maret?

I'm glad you agree that this board is foolish. But apparently not so foolish that it prevents you from weighing in. Perhaps you are a bit foolish.
