In VA, each combination of investment option, child, and parent has its own account number. What this mean is that you can basically contribute as much as you want each year and have it be fully tax deductible on your state taxes each year.
For example if you only have 1 kid, each parent can put $4,000 into an account for that kid in "Vanguard Total Stock Market" and $4,000 in "Vanguard Total Bond Market" and another $4,000 in "Vanguard Total International Stock" and so on and so on until you run out of investment options that you like. |
