Do you prefer an open floor plan or separate rooms in a home?

Take the plan below.

When you walk in to the house you are in the foyer and walk into the family room. You won't see the sink full of dishes either way because of the distance from the foyer and family room.

If you want a private diner you can use the dining room.

To informally entertain you can use the breakfast room and kitchen.

If you really want an additional space you can use the library as a living room but more than likely all the kids stuff will be in the finished basement

I love that house plan. Where can I get a house like that??!

That's a sekas home. I like the plan but I think the bedrooms could be bigger.

I like this plan a little bit more because the bedrooms are larger

Won't get wet taking the groceries in during a rain storm. Won't get cold..... ah....

I find this floorplan too open on the first floor. I would have to send the kids up or downstairs while I make dinner. Plus having any toys on the first level would drive me nuts. Right now we have a playroom right off the kitchen - close enough, but not in my face AND contained. Mostly.

The good thing about the second home linked is you can have the kids practice soccer inside during bad weather.

Not that I agree 100% with these articles, but interesting nonetheless.

Right, brought to you by the same people that wrote

Why is that weird? I don't care about double sinks at all. As long as there is a vanity space/counter space.

Separate.

There would hopefully be an island/counter for kids to sit at while i work in the kitchen between living room and kitchen.

This is what I want. I want it ver badly. So.... So... Much. The renovation is coming!

Yes. This is exactly what I wanted when we moved. I love it--and it's great for young children because you can see them easily throughout the open space.

I have this and it works great for our family

I think there are lots of definitions of open floor plans in peoples' minds. I think everyone can agree that the large kitchen opening into breakfast/family room with island is desirable. (Separate dining room and formal living, of course). But you have to be crazy not to like the open kitchen part.

SEPARATE! If I could have a summer kitchen, I would.
