HELP, I'm an IDIOT, I poured Metamucil down my garbage disposal!!

OP here, looks like my husband will be taking apart the trap today. my son woke me up at 4am this morning to cut his nails (wtf??), and i checked it again then, but water is still not draining.

lol, he's going to torment me mercilessly for being such an idiot.

You don't even need to buy the wrench, by the way. You can put a screw bit in a power screwdriver in backwards and it will be the correct size, if you're really that desperate.

I did! the disposal is now working fine, but the drain isn't draining. I had though that using the Allen wrench on the bottom, and spinning the blades inside the drain with a wooden spoon accomplished the same thing - getting the blades cleared to be able to move. I now know that is not the case.

Well, I am glad that at least my post gave some humor and smiles to some others. LOL, I do admit that while at the time I was not laughing....thinking of what that metamucil looked like after putting it in there is quite funny. It REALLY looked like someone went and took a dump in my kitchen sink.

Seems strange that this stuff actually helps the digestive system...seems like it would plug you up instead!

It will plug you up if you used that much -- and if you didn't drink it immediately after stirring it will form a hard clump in the glass. I already posted this. that is what is clogging your drain -- metamucil that had formed a hardened plug in your drain pipe.

If not, feel under the disposal for the small allen wrench hole--turn it with the wrench.

That's all I know and it has always worked.

OP, if you haven't tried a plunger, I would try that before taking the trap apart. I hadn't heard of using dishsoap and hot water before plunging, but that might be worth a try.

OP here with an update, in case anyone is curious. DH took apart the trap, and it was completely full of gelatinous goo. It was incredibly disgusting and had a consistency similar to rubber.

Some had also gotten past the trap into the pipe in the wall. We used a bent wire hanger to pull that glob out.

All is in working order now, and I have to give my DH props for being so kind and understanding about my serious F-up.

Wife did this last night! Sure wish I had read this before I took the plumbing apart! LOL. In her typical female fashion (everything is a joke!) she suggested pouring a laxative down it! I told her that's what started this "$hit" in the first place!!

I have put Metamucil down my disposal and that is all clean but all the drain lines from the sink out are stopped up. I have cleaned all the lines under the sink but it is still blocked from there out . What can I use to get the rest of the stuff out of the lines.
