The Tonight Show was in NYC until Carson moved it to LA in 1972. But otherwise, excellent post. |
We need to just divorce the idea of The Tonight Show from what we are seeing now. Sadly, the era of Johnny Carson has passed. I consider today's talk shows as nighttime versions of Access Hollywood. Leno was given the show and didn't damage it, per se, but proved himself to be a small person, which, IMO, lowered the show by association.
Letterman turned out to be bitter and nasty and political and I'm so glad he was left to age out with his irrelevant show. I like Conan. A lot. But I don't think he was the right person for The Tonight Show either. Too creative for the formula of TTS. So Jimmy Fallon is hosting a show called The Tonight Show, but it's not what Johnny left behind. Jimmy will probably do well with his audience because he'll just make it into the Jimmy Fallon show in TTS time slot. |

Conan is a big whiny baby. After he pitched his fit and switched networks, I had to stop watching him. And his cross-country pity-party tour: so unbecoming. |
I used to really like Leno. But he showed his true colors after he screwed Conan and took his job back. Let's hope he doesn't want his job back again. |
Conan looks like a talking potato. I can't watch him. |

Yea Conan really got fucked, he got 33 million dollars when he left, got fired, whatever. Super fucked. Haha. I'd take a firing for that. Maybe it was all planned. |
I believed Conan when he said he wanted that gig (TTS) all his life, since he was a little boy. So many people say such a thing unbelievably, yet he was convincing and real. Unfortunately, he was not as shrewd as Jay when push came to shove. |
So what did Jimmy Fallon do to kick Jay Leno out then? |
This. He hides this side but it's there. |
Boohoo. |
