I've heard way up county (Boyds and that area) are still really bad.

I'm expecting a two hour delay. Which is just enough to completely mess up my plans for the day.

The upper county is not "really bad". The main roads are find. Some of the residential streets have a little snow in places.

There is a two hour delay btw.

The county needs to be divided in at least two (Northern and Southern) for purposes of school closures. This is foolish.

The county can not be divided because of the number of kids that are bussed long distances for magnets/special ed etc.

yup

Montgomery County Public Schools will open two hours late tomorrow (Jan. 23) due to emergency weather conditions. Bus service will be provided on a two-hour-delayed schedule. Morning prekindergarten, morning half-day Head Start, other morning half-day programs and field trips are canceled. Other activities and programs that begin at 10:30 a.m. or earlier are canceled. Administrative offices will be open on time. Day care programs in school buildings will remain open as scheduled.

They tried that back in the early 80's before the advent of magnet programs, etc. It failed miserably because parents were too stupid to know where they lived.

That should be:

I was a student in MCPS in the early 80s and have no recollection of this.

The county can not be divided because of the number of kids that are bussed long distances for magnets/special ed etc.

That's easy. Just open up more magnets and special programs and divide them appropriately between the northern county and the closer-in county. There are already two magnets, Blair and Poolesville; two French immersion programs: Maryvale and Sligo Creek. There really should be about a dozen more Spanish immersion programs than there are, but that's a whole 'nother thread. Special ed is harder - I am aware because I have a kid in PEP - but should not be impossible.

You call that "easy"? Opening up more magnets and special programs, and then dividing them between the "northern county" and the "closer-in county"? So that the people in the "closer-in county" can have a handful fewer snow days per year? Really? "Easy"?

Can someone please give me a link to their operating status? We don't attend but have a special event tomorrow that is supposed to follow MCPS operating and I cannot find anything on their site! Thanks.
