Pp, if you need a ST, you don't need to revive a several year old thread. Check ASHA's website and search by zip code. |
+1 My oldest had 12-15 month old language skills at 2.5 years old, which is significant. Assuming you've had ears checked etc, I wouldn't be concerned about 6 mo at that age, especially if they're already in therapy. |
FYI this thread is from 2013. |
Full-time care is not the answer. Maybe 5 mornings a week.
Speech therapy at this age (IMO) is more about training the parent than actual therapy with the child. 1 hour a week contact with the child isn't sufficient. You've got to learn the methods of soliciting speech and carry it all out, all the time. I recommend the book "It takes two to talk" -- SLP recommended it to us when DS was 2 and in therapy. |
My DD is in a full-day preschool in Alexandria City, and she qualified through Child Find for an IEP for speech only. And she has a speech therapist come to pull her out at preschool 2x a week. It's been wonderful for our family, and we are grateful. Prior to that, we were taking time off to drive her to private speech therapy twice a week, which was difficult for our work schedules. So it can be done. |
