We always have both, to please everyone.

| We have stuffing and sweet potatoes with marshmallows (yum) but mashed sounds great< too.... |
|
Yes. Yes, you do.
(OP, did you even need to ask???) |
- seriously-thankfully nobody I know likes/makes this-so disgusting. |
This. Mashed potatoes are the very essence of Thanksgiving. |
|
Yams = optional
Mashed potatoes = essential |
| Yes. Because I don't like yams OR stuffing, but DO like mashed potatoes. So I would very much hope for mashed potatoes. |
| mashed a requirment |
I'm from the South, so it's the opposite. (Also, they are called sweet potatoes, not yams, but anyway). My in-laws always make mashed potatoes and I never eat any. For me, mashed potatoes are a year-round food and not special to Thanksgiving. There are so many other carbs -- including the dressing (not stuffing), for which I wait all year -- that I would never eat mashed potatoes at Thanksgiving. And my mother and grandmother never made them for Thanksgiving either. Clearly we are in the minority though. Why don't you just poll your guests? That will get you a more accurate answer than DCUM. |
| We are doing yams and latkes! |
no offense but you are in the minority-I cannot imagine any adult being able to stomach that mess |

Sweet potatoes are optional.
Turkey is optional. You must have mashed potatoes. |
