| Have a completely candid talk with DS's current coaches, and have an honest conversation with the hs coach. And do it WITHOUT DS there. A good current coach should be able to give you an honest assessment, if you ask for it. And if the coach says your kid is realistically never going to start at a particular WCAC school, then decide whether your DS would be happy there even if he doesn't make the team or is forever a backup player (and seldom used). And if what your kid really wants to do is be a starter and loves to play, then work with your kid's coach on figuring out the school with the right level of play for your kid. An honest, even painful, conversation now will help your kid out later. And if it turns out he's a late-bloomer and he becomes the star of a team in a little less competitive league, that's fine too. Check this board for a couple of recent Maret success stories. It's fine to be a big fish in a smaller pond. But a real key is to talk with the coach without your child sitting there. Let him have his fun. |
