I'm in the same boat, OP. I have learned that it really helps to add up ALL your cc debt each month and make sure that it is going downward! this has been eye-opening to me. I thought we were making some headway since we pay quite a bit toward cc debt each month, but it was still going up! We use cash whenever we can, but still use credit for online purchases and automatic payments such as kids' activities and gym. Those purchases alone were more than we were paying off each month. We have since dropped some of those auto payments, such as our gym membership. This Christmas season, I'm trying to keep the online spending to a minimum even if that means paying a few dollars more to buy in stores. Good luck OP!
OP you are not alone. I am trying to change

OP, I haven't read the thread, so I don't know if anyone's said this, but I think more than a budget, you need to know what emotions are behind your spending. You may be trying to fill a void, overcompensate, or justify. Try some soul searching (journaling or therapy) to get to the root of your problem.
What's there to buy? It's all just stuff! It's not going anywhere, they make more of it.you won't be missing out if you stop buying for awhile.
I stopped shopping and started eating more. Figured it was cheaper and I still bought something be it Starbucks, lunch, sushi. Saved money to pay down my cc debt in 6 months but gained 10lbs ?
