Close-in NOVA community for in-laws?

There is a reason you don't see many seniors here -- they get the F out of here when they retire. And who can blame them? Who wants to sit in traffic going to your medical appointment? Dealing with the lines and poor customer service at stores. And the cost of living.

It sounds like your in laws have money so they can buy into one of the better neighborhoods but I wonder if they'll end up resent living here. Who RETIRES to such an expensive, congested area?

PP. sorry to disillusion you but many people move to this area to be near children and grandchildren. I am a real estate agent and I see it all the time.

OP, how often do you realistically seem them coming over?

If 1x a week during the week and then 1 weekend every 4-6 weeks, then they ought to consider Leesburg or maybe Reston.

If it's more often, then they really should consider somewhere along the I-270 corridor or in Silver Spring ... because the estate tax is going to see a cold comfort compared to sitting on Beltway traffic or getting squashed on the Metro. OTOH it depends on when they are coming over or if you are going to their place.

And be thankful they are nearby and (hopefully) offering help without too many strings attached.

12:47, where are you getting the Beltway idea from? Chain Bridge or Key Bridge, neither takes you on the Belfast.

OK, so replace "Beltway" with "Wisconsin Avenue outbound during rush hour." Happier?
