Actually, my kids are 5 and 8 and will be staying with well loved grandparents. Old enough for you?

Keep the ideas coming -- I'm excited!

I think travelling should be done as a family.

Then go travel with your family. Millions, literally MILLIONS of people disagree with you though, and their kids turn out to be perfectly happy and well-adjusted people. I happen to disagree with you. It's not like OP is going to chain her kids to the sink with a hunk of cheese around their necks. They'll get a vacation with their beloved grandparents.

yes , those with poor coping skills leave their kids.
I took my THREE MONTH old twins on vacation to Cayman.

NP here, the fact that you can't leave your children speaks more about you then it does about others! Not as healthy as you think lady, and maybe try having sex with your husband- he has been complaining a lot in the relationship forum and needs some of your attention.

If I had 5 days with DH, I would do a completely lazy vacation at a luxury resort. Or, a visit to London or Paris if budget was not an issue. But I would still take it easy and just enjoy some good food, leisurely walks and shopping

For the couple of posters who seem to be shocked that parents want to go away for a few days without the kids, I am planning on my kids (7 and 2) spending most of the summer with their grandparents in Europe next year. I have already done it a few times with the older one, and very much look forward to it I think my daughter has developed an internal clock - when spring comes, she starts asking when she will go to stay with her grandparents. Whoever said kids should be chained to their parents 365 days per year? I spent a lot of vacations and weekends with my grandparents growing up, and those are some of my best memories.

As many have suggested, the weather in SF is awesome in October. You have Napa/Sonoma, plus, you can go north via car for an incredible coastline, or, south for Half Moon Bay, Carmel, etc. Or, just stay put in SF itself.

Bermuda is only a 2 hour nonstop flight and so beautiful, clean, relaxing, fun. But only warm in the summer.

I'll take Paris any time of year.

My favorite two places.

Charleston, SC
SF + Napa
Paris

For 5 days, though, if it was me - Charleston, hands down. Easy/short flight, 5 days is the perfect amount of time, lots to do, very romantic, GREAT food.

I would do San Francisco in a heartbeat. Great restaurants, you can combine with Napa and/or outdoorsy stuff if you like that sort of thing. Great city, lots to do, we went as a couple pre-kids and it was great.

London is not a bad idea either but if you suffer from jet lag as I do might be easier for you to go west.

Skiing would also be fun depending on time of year.

17:59 again - we have planned several short trips without our kids (including international) and they've all been great for everyone. Enjoy!
