Government Shutdown??? Do Federal Daycare centers stay open?

Anonymous
My daycare, Huckleberry Cheesecake, takes droppings on an as-available basis. You might call on Monday to check. Good luck.

Oops, autocorrect. Drop-ins, not droppings.

My situation is both parents are essential employees so we have to report to work and neither of us can take leave. And our daycare, housed in a federal building, is closing during the shutdown.

You could possibly ask your child's day care teacher if they are willing to watch your child during the shut down, obviously, paid.

If anyone has heard for sure their daycare would close and is interested in chatting for a couple of minutes today, I'd appreciate it. My email is john.fritze@baltsun.com. Thanks for considering,

How the shutdown could affect families?

You mean...how those of us hard working federal employees have to cancel vacations or plan our lives based on two political parties playing chicken.

Go stand outside any federal building on Monday and you will get your story.

Our agency is not going to be shutdown, so our daycare is open, but we were told that if it was and daycare was going to be closed, that they would continue to pay the teachers. As long as they pay the teachers, I don't mind paying as much (I still don't like to pay, but at least they aren't blatantly profitting off the situation).

The daycare at HUD is staying open.

How can HUD daycare stay open when others are closing? this just does not make any sense. what morons are running these federal buildings?

Back on topic, our federal daycare center (IRS New Carrollton Bright Horizons) announced today at 5pm that they had finally heard from the powers that be and that they would remain open even if the federal government shuts down. We had three furlough days earlier this year and the hassle of facility security, access and sign-ins were slowly adjusted, so hopefully in the event of a shutdown tonight/tomorrow, that the procedures will be a little easier until the agency reopens. So, my spouse may be home but the kids can still go to the daycare (I will probably still be working and the daycare is close to my work, too).

DOT/FAA childcare center is closed and charging 100% tuition for first 10 days of shutdown and 50% after that. So crazy- we had to scramble to find someone to take care of our kids because we are both accepted employees and can't take leave. So stressful.

What organization runs these daycares?

Our BH center is closed, but they arranged for back-up care at a couple of other BH locations and sent our teachers to be with the kids. My DD had a blast at a new playground and was totally happy because she was there with her own teachers and friends. I am feeling pretty happy with Bright Horizons right now, since I am not a fed and my husband is essential.

Yes, because BH at IRS New Carrollton is open and there are a few families whose kids stayed home with furloughed parents, I think we actually might have a few people from other BH locations. There were a couple of children there this morning at drop-off that I didn't recognize at all (not that I know all of the children, but I know most of the children by sight).
