Also, for medical specialties with great lifestyles, it is very competitive to get into the residency programs. Not all medical school graduates who would choose a a radiology program can get in. |
| Be a dentist. Mine has a Mercedes, a Porsche, and a Ferrari. Will chat away about vacations. No idea how much he makes, but he always seems happy. |

I think most of you who say your neighborhood pharmacist looks miserable are confusing the pharmacy techs with the actual pharmacist. Techs get paid lowly salaries and do the counting and customer service. The pharmacist only ever comes out when you need a consult. They aren't the ones whose jobs are getting taken over by technology. They are the ones who answer questions that customers have about their medication. They supervise all the pharmacy techs at CVS. They also work the call centers. My aunt sits on her bum all day answering the phone.
May I ask if you're Chinese? I am and have four, going on five, pharmacists in my family. My cousin graduated last year. Originally, she didn't want to go into the program, but her dad refused to pay for any other. She was bitter at first, but upon graduating, was very grateful. |

My brother in law is a pharmacist. He has worked retail ever since he got his degree. He makes a good salary but retail pharmacies treat their employees like crap. It is impossible for him to schedule days off, much less vacations, they don't have enough other employees to provide backup, and the shift work has been really hard on his family (3 young kids). My sister in law thinks he'd be much happier working for a VA or in a hospital setting but he would need to get some additional training to do that and he is the primary breadwinner so hard to just pull the plug on a regular paycheck.
In addition to the long days and nights and all the standing, he also has to deal with the whole customer service aspect, meaning rude customers, insurance snafus, and lots of people seeking painkillers and other addictive types. I think he wishes he could get out... |
Seriously this the thing to go into. |
plus you're in a CVS or Walgreens ALL.DAY.EVERY.DAY. Can you imagine how old the elevator music must get? |
Imagine if both parents had this kind of job. Buy a house in an area where the COL is low but QOL is high. You could pay off the house and student loans in a few years. |
