Have you seen this? A teacher who left wrote it.

Wow. I have worked with the principal at Fort Hunt when she was a cluster director. I believe every word that teacher wrote. |

I have friends at this school who have had varying experiences. I heard that one reason for the high turnover is that FCPS used to have a policy that Immersion teachers (Ft. Hunt has spanish immersion) didn't have to be certified teachers because they were having trouble filling teachers competent in the languages they were meant to teach. After a lot of complaining about that, they changed the policy, but most of the immersion teachers have had to leave now since they weren't certified.
That's just info from another parent. Anyone know if it's true? |
Yes, it is true that immersion teachers have to be certified in elementary AND fluent in Spanish. This is a new requirement in the last couple of years. That may explain why some left (there are only about 5-6 immersion teachers at the school), but not all since I know of at least one certified immersion teacher who did leave because of the working conditions. |
She says "We knew as we left Fort Hunt that we couldn’t site the REAL problems .... " The word is spelled "cite." One has to wonder who they are hiring for these jobs.

still not a lot of specifics, and poorly written. |
Aw, dang, that's our AAP center.
|
| Oh I think this tells a lot about what is going on at that school...somepeople just don't want to believe it. |

Does anyone have any links to or more info on the climate survey results that put Bull Run last? They had a horrible Principal for 5 years, got a new one last year, but I guess the teachers don't like the new one, although the kids are actually learning now in the classroom. It was discussed very briefly at the end of the school year PTA mtg, but then brushed off, but I don't recall them saying clearly that BRES was dead last (although wouldn't surprise me).

Link to the reports: http://fcpswcs.org/reports/ |
maybe it was the bad teachers who left; maybe the principal was cracking down on the poor performers. |
Given that people cite web sites, it's understandible why someone blogging from Mexico in her spare time might make that error and not check before posting. It's people like you who can't see the forest for the trees who make life miserable for teachers. Asshat. |
