Can you take sandwiches through airport security?

Amazing how you parents know there is a risk you will be asked/told to throw away food, then come and bitch about it when it happens. If you are unsure and dont know what is going to happen, DONT TAKE THE CHANCE. What is wrong with going through security and then buying something in one of the newsstands or eateries once you have passed through? Would be more convenient and not hold up all other passengers waiting to get through because you want to make sure snowflake has what he/she needs.

Sandwiches are OK, chips, chicken, etc are ok. Stuff like yogurt, applesauce, drinks may not be ok.
