+1. I also think that Kathy is not a current name, so it's not what people would automatically use as a nickname in 2013.

And, to the extent it matters, I love the name! Would have been on my list except we already have one in my family.

I'm Cathleen. Only on rare instances have people tried to shorten it to "Cathy." I'm not rude about it but find a way to politely let them know my name is Cathleen.

Once she's old enough to decide, she may choose to go by Kathy.
