Dover is mostly large, upscale 1940s-60s ramblers and contemporaries, which doesn't appeal to everyone. And the Metro corridor has much of the most attractive housing stock in Arlington: colonials, tudors, bungalows, etc.

everyone has their own taste - I'd say that all over N. Arlington there is a lot of diversity from one neighborhood to the next. In Dover, Donaldson Run, Chain Bridge Forest, the homes are older, generally larger and have their own character. they most all are built of 100% brick, lots of small interesting touches that you can't simply find. there are of course, new construction in these area - beautiful home more of the arts & crafts style and amazingly it all seems to fit together. so the metro line corridor, IMHO, doesn't hold court over any other area of N. Arlington
