I can see where people might be put off by Dr. Widra's approach, but he is a good doctor. I'll never forget that when we found out we were pregnant with identical twins he apologized to me telling me it was not the ideal outcome and all the risks that could come. I was a little put off by that and subsequently after seeing my regular OB took a more cavalier attitude. Well damn if Widra wasn't right and regular OB almost cost us the life of our twins.
Every once in awhile I send a note with pics to Dr. Widra and our nurse (Jennifer who was the best!) with a quick thank you. I always get a nice note back from both of them (and it has been 4 years). |
| I've been seeing Dr. Widra for initial fertility diagnostics; just got a DX of Asherman's Syndrome and he'll be doing my surgery next month. I LOVE him. I love that he is no nonsense but I don't find that arrogant, I find it respectful. He puts me at ease and makes me feel reassured that we have solid chance of things being okay. I personally find him to be kind and patient with our questions. So extremely glad we found him! |
| My DH is a nerdy scientist and he really likes Dr Widra and the way he answers our questions seriously and doesn't dumb stuff down. |
| I really like Dr. Widra. He is very knowledgable and knows all the current research, etc. He is very matter of fact which I found helpful. After over two years of trying, an absolutely horrible experience at Shady Grove's Rockville office, and a tough surgery, Widra knew exactly how to handle my case. I wish I had gone to him first. I didn't like my doctor at SG Rockville but the truly awful part was my nurse and one of the ultrasound technicians. Terrible people who should not be in this line of work. In contrast everyone in DC was wonderful. |
| I can't speak about Dr. Levy but I have been extremely impressed with Dr. Widra. Although we haven't had luck yet, he has consistently been responsive and helpful and, when prior attempts failed, i felt that he truly sympathized with us. I am very glad that he is my doctor and definitely recommend him. |

One more vote for Dr. Widra. Reasonable, not patronizing, and no nonsense. And, appropriately understanding that this is a tough process without trying to dictate how you are supposed to feel about it. |
| Personally, Dr. Wildra isn't the right fit for me and I will be switching to another doctor for the duration. What some people may describe as "direct" or "no non-sense," I'd describe as rude. I actually had Dr. Levy for my transfer, and really liked him! Anyway, again, just my personal experience and opinion. I would not recommend Wildra. |
| I loved the Rockville office, and Dr. O'Brien. It would also seem that Rockville would be much easier for you to get to than the DC office (if you are driving). |
| I love Dr Widra, but parking in Rockville is easy and free. |
Also - if you do IVF you will be doing a lot of blood draws. I found that the phlebotomists at Rockville were better - no pinch, less squeezing the ball and slapping my veins - and I drink 1l of water an hour before and walk briskly for 10 min. K St always had trouble, Rockville never did. |
| I agree that Rockville is so much better for parking, but I adore Widra. Started going to him in 2009 and got pregnant in 2010 with our first IVF attempt. The day after my retrieval, he called me at home while he was vacationing in Hawaii to wish me luck and make sure everything was okay. Fast forward to 2013 and we just went back for a FET, which unfortunately was negative. Again, he called me at home to express his condolences and talk about the next step. True, he's clinical and scientific in his office, but I expect that from a doctor. |
| I love Widra and the entire DC staff . His bedside manner is good, he is very funny! Makes the process seamless, efficient, smart, fun. |
I'm sorry, but no. There is nothing "fun" about this process. Or at least it wasn't for me (and I had a kid with the help of Dr. Widra). Great/bad thing about Shady Grove is that you can basically go to your local office or Rockville do get your bloodwork or procedures done. There are good and bad docs/nurses at both. At least in my experience. |
Have u been given the green light to ttc? i too have ashermans. Best of luck to yoy |
| Wider is extremely arrogant and does not listen. I had my first child with him, and I went back to him again. Big mistake. I had asked him about doing batch processing of eggs and freezing due to my age because I had read women my average more success that way. He did not think it was necessary. Fast forward one year later after 1 miscarriage and 4 cycle. Now he thinks my egg quality is too far gone. I have had to fight him for every change in my protocol. And every time I did we got better results. No idea why anyone thinks the man is competent. I agree that there must be some shady grove marketing group on here. Also my acupuncturist had heard the same thing about Widra. |
