I don't know about other families, but DH & I often divide and conquer on the weekends so it's most likely that only one of us is at the party and if the one parent is the one who's drinking, then who's driving the kid home?

If I was at a party with alcohol, I would not drink so much that I was unable to drive safely home. For me, that would mean that in a 2 hour party, I would have, at most, 2 drinks, and I would be sure to drink a ton of water and eat something as well.

Unless you are a man and over 180, this could easily put yr blood alcohol at .08

DH and I rarely drink, but we had alcohol at DS's 1st birthday party. It was an afternoon party and lots of people had one or two. The parties we've been to have only been first and second birthdays, but most of them had alcohol. I don't think it's a big deal one way or the other.
