Yep, our South American at pair lovingly called my super chunky daughter Gordita as a term of endearment. |

In a similar vein, I cringed when my mother in law told me that it was much better that my four month old DD was tall and thin. People project such issues onto girls! All shapes and sizes of babies are adorable. There is nothing offensive about someone pointing out that your baby is adorably chunky... and there will be some idiots out there who will insist on emphasizing their issues with fat. Ignore. ![]() |
So silly. I was a monstrously large baby and I'm doing okay today - in fact, I wear it as a badge of honor how chubby I was. There is/should not be any negative connotation with chubby babies! I will say this though - there are some people who do have weird body issues they project onto kids and you should try to steer clear of them. For example I know a grandma who talks obsessively about being skinny to her young grandkids - so much so that they started asking "Am I skinny?" and refusing to eat certain things that would "take years off their life." Also, I've had people comment on my baby being chubby in a somewhat negative way - "Are you feeding her too much?" or "Wow, that's a lot." You know by tone - in those cases, I just politely say, "Yes, we're so happy to have a healthy baby!" and move on. |
