| Madeira and she can board! Lots of AA DC smartie girls there. |
| Have her gather as much paperwork as possible (report cards, transcripts, test scores) and go to the schools in person to see what they can do. Ask to speak to the principal. Time consuming but more effective than emails. Take the daughter along. |
Their HS campus is on Kansas, but walking distance from the other. They'll go through 11th in the fall, and graduate 12 graders for the first time in 2015. |
I wouldn't check it out until you fill out the application online. Every day can count for getting off a waitlist and if she applies and get in but don't like it she doesn't have to go. |

I thought Basis was MS only - it goes through hs - are they adding a grade per year?
|
Yes, they are adding a grade per year. BASIS will have grades 5-9 for school year 2013-2014. |

Ellington would be an awesome choice if she has an appropriate talent (I'm a proud alum). I got in when moving to the area over the summer; I believe I auditioned in August, but it was a while ago so I imagine it might be a more strict admission process.
Banneker also a good option. I would also check out McKinley Tech. I wonder if Cap City would be challenging enough for a bright kid. I've heard mixed opinions on the middle school. I would be surprised your friend could get a full ride at this late date. $5K toward tuition, maybe. Full ride, unlikely. I agree about going in person. She should plead her case and make it easier for principals to help. Good luck -- I agree you're a good friend! |

Wow!! The school has per student charges of boarding tuition $52,710 & cost of day attendance $39,830, with average financial aid of $35,000 to 80 families, according to http://www.madeira.org/admission/tuition-financial-aid. |
