Just make sure they do both the in office strep test (can get a false negative) and the lab one and ask for the lab report or at least a call from the lab so it doesn't get lost in the camp administration.

Camps can't operate for mom's peace of mind, and it generally isn't good for the kids to talk to home. He's just a bit under the weather. That's not a crisis.

OP, I also got sick at overnight camp as a kid...with a nasty rotovirus a bunch of us came down with. I was in the infirmary for a bit, and I was well taken care of. Your child will be OK.
