what new sport can my 9-yo try and still have a good chance to excel?

6'l" will be fine -- I know people who were recruited for lightweight men's even shorter than that.

he does like sports. i'm just looking for ideas of new ones to try.

speed skating! there are classes in Anacostia and Annandale. He'd need to start with some basic ice skating classes first.

other ideas: tumbling, dance, horseback riding, archery.

But I think trying lots of different sports is a great idea, as is showing him lots of different sports (maybe look at clips from the olympics) to see what looks like fun.
