| Reminds me of the wrong spelling name trend |
Love it |
| As a teacher it can be a bit of a pain to explain to a little kid that their real name starts with one letter but the name they use all the time starts with a different one. Takes them a little longer to learn to write/spell their names so I vote for "Kate" for "Katherine" and "Cate" for "Catherine." |
|
I prefer Katherine over Catherine because it's originally a Greek name, and Catherine is the latinized spelling.
Cate sounds like trying to sound sophisticated. |
| Princess Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, goes by Kate. |
| My grandma was Kathryn and went by Katy. |
| I like Cate. It's different. |
that statement presumes that there is only one "right" spelling. |
+1 and echo pp who pointed out 'Kate with a c, Kate with a c.' I agree with both. |
|
I like Kate.
|
| Hate cate |
|
I'm called Cate because I'm Catherine. I don't mind Catherine, I just find it 'formal'.
To the ppl that are saying this is right or wrong - you are clueless! |
| I am a Kate (Katherine). I was called Katie as a child (and still am by my close family/friends). I think it's great to have options, and a name that can be changed as you grow - so my vote is for Katherine/Catherine, using Kate/Cate as your nickname (obviously my preference is for a K!) |
I agree. |

I think either are cute, but prefer Cate. To those that say it's spelled wrong, you are just silly. I have known several Cates and never found it odd. And it's a traditional spelling, so it's not like one of those names where people start adding Ys in place of Is or switching up a C for a K to make it more "modern/trendy."
I'm habing a boy, but would love to use either Caitlin or Catherine for a girl some day. My last name starts with K, so I would prefer CK as initials over KK. Either way, it's a beautiful name! |
