Landon School - Positive Freshman Parent Reflection

OP here

As originally stated the posting is about the positive experience my family is having at Landon, that was written by me (Dad) of my own volition.

The focus was to speak on the positive I am sure there are less positive things to comment on at any school including Landon. I choose not to in this forum.

We are new family and it has been very welcoming so far. My son immediately went out and played ball with some current students at a recent event. zero prompting from any adult...inclusive. My son was sweaty and smiling when he came back. We have high expectations for him and the school.

Good luck with that!

Their opinions are different from yours. It's a democracy. Why the freak-out?

Well ,if it is not a positive experience you can always leave. The families that I see that are unhappy usually have a boy that has trouble with friendships...often are un athletic...and have some attention getting behaviors... So basically, the boy is not fitting in with his peers....

My sense is that Landon as a school is trying very hard to define itself more broadly than a school for athletic boys. Posts like this one don't help that effort.

Not true at all. Sorry to disappoint the haters, but boys of all kinds thrive at Landon. Musicians, artists, and athletes, whatever. Kids are individuals with likes and dislikes, strengths and weaknesses. Inferring that the boys who leave any school fall into some pre-determined "type" or bucket absurd.

Responding to poster at 9:23. Sorry for the typos:

This post has all the earmarks of being written by a teenager who is not especially bright.

Thanks for the post OP. We are a Landon family. I had some misgivings about the school before my son started. I could now be on the PR team. We love the school. My son, who is athletic but no superstar, is thriving in every area. We have watched him try and succeed at things we never thought he had an interest in. I really like the boys he is friends with and their families. The teachers know him well and help him set appropriate goals. I see the faculty correcting boys and expecting respectful behavior in all realms where they represent Landon. We've also been impressed with the character/ethics education. An all boys, private school isn't the right fit for everyone but it should be respected when families share their good experiences.

It's possible for a school PR department to craft a fake post, but I'm not suggesting that is the case here.

Landon parent here.

Very happy with the well-balanced education and focus on character development and becoming a well-rounded student. Neither play lacrosse or football (and if they did that would be great too).

Landon has great teacher/mentor/coaches, we're excited about the new Head, and very pleased with the rigorous and balanced education that the boys receive. The curriculum isn't left-wing, and yet isn't conservative either. Balance is the key. The boys learn to think for themselves and express their views in front of their classmates, and teachers respect the different points of view.

No criticisms of the other good/great DC area schools here, just happy and privileged to have our boys at such a fine institution.
