I don't "get" blowouts

Anonymous
A blow out lasts me 5 days (probably 3-4 if it's humid) - and yes, they do a WAY better job than I could at home. I typically wash my hair every other day.

I can blow out my own hair perfectly. I can't imagine wh y anyone pays for this, at least not on a regular basis. Of course, my hair needs to be washed every day. It is long, straight, pale blonde, and pretty easy, as long as I wash it every day. I can't imagine being over 30 and not being really great at blowing out your own hair. It is not that hard.

If you have easy hair. Which you do. Not everyone does. Why is this so hard to understand? There is a reason drybar exists.

Ugh. People that don't get it clearly don't have difficult hair. It takes me about an hour to dry my hair at night and I still have to fix with a flat iron in the morning... I love how smooth my hair is after a blow out. Love it. When I do my own (which I do twice a week) it doesn't look nearly as nice. I will wash and dry my hair at night and I don't wash again fit 3-4 days. As a matter of fact, I'm still going with Thursday night hair (although it's up now and will be washed tomorrow).

Those of you who don't begged blowouts- I invite you over to my home to blow dry my hair. Then we shall proceed to DryBar and watch someone there do it. You will then understand the beauty of a blowout. Guaranteed.

Sorry, but I just can't resist...you seem to be a living proof of the "dumb blonde" stereotype.

Funny. Well, I have an IQ of 144 and I make six figures so, maybe I am a dumb blonde. Or maybe I just have perfect hair naturally and I forget (have no experience with) difficult hair. Thank god my daughter has even more perfect hair than I do. Some of us just win the genetic lottery.

It sounds like you just have easy hair and not much of it. Definitely not hair that is thick.

Anonymous wrote:I know Drybar is popular now, but I really don't understand why one would go to a salon just for a blowout (other than for an updo or other special occasion hair). How long does it last? Don't you know how to blowdry your own hair?

I guess my main question is longevity. How long does your blowout last? I have medium length hair with long layers. When I wake up in the morning it looks like a rat's nest. I must wash it and style it every day. Going to a place like Drybar would be a total waste of $ for me. It reminds me of my grandma's salon, where she would get her hair "set" with rollers and then sit under a dryer. The "set" would last for a week. Is that what your blowouts are like?

I just don't get it. Someone enlighten me, please.

You obviously don't have long, thick curly hair. I couldn't blow my hair dry myself if my life depended on it. I only do it a couple times a year in any case. But, yes it does/could last a week if you choose not to wash, get rained on, or sweat too much.

Why do you care what other people do? Get a life.

This reminds me of my 78 yo MIL, who gets her hair set every week, never washes it between appointments, sleeps rigidly on her back, and always wears a plastic hair covering when it rains.

Actually, my hair is very thick, unlike most natural blonde hair I know. I am lucky. I always did want waves or curls though. Grass is always greener.

Ergo, why I dont get the blow out thing - if I had wavy or curly hair I would let it be natural. I LOVE waves and curls. I would also love to not have to wash my hair every day. Again, the grass is always greener on the other side.

I honestly cannot comprehend that there are scalps --with oil glands and sebum and sweat glands -- that honestly don't need washing every few days.

Meaning, I get that dry, fried or AA hair does better with some rest in between heat applications. But do your oil glands on your scalp really not make oil? Do you not sweat on the pillow at night? Doesn't your scalp get moist during a DC summer day??

And, truth is, often when I've been standing close to a lot of women with that "thick, curly hair" that takes so long to dry (Indian, Chinese, one italian friend) I can smell an unwashed scent. Hair looks fine though! But there's a mildew scent.

As an AA-descent mom whose DD has allergies, both of us with curly, thick, natural hair, I wash our hair 2x a week, condition 4X a week, and rinse thoroughly nightly (too much shampoo, even moisturizing shampoo, can be drying to our hair type).

I have to rid our hair of pollen daily, and I've found that rinsing, etc makes our hair much more manageable. But I've never straightened DD's hair, and no longer straighten my own, in large part because we're an active family, because I want DD to love and own her natural hair, and because the lack of washing/getting hair wet that having straight hair entails (for us) is extremely limiting and also does from time to time lead to hair/head smelling stale.

But if I did want straight hair, if I thought Drybar folks could handle our texture and it wouldn't take forever, I would get a blowout for a special occasion.

Last blow-out i got, lasted me from 7 pm to 3 am when it started raining.Had and awesome date, closed down one restaurant and continued salsa dancing.
Cannot straighten my own hair, so I have it done about once a year-so worth the money.
