That's a bit harsh. He has a stable home with a loving grandma. It'd be a lot better if his mother wasn't strung out. But he's not going to grow up with her. I think it's a little early to put him next to Bundy and Gacey. |
Eh, I disagree. I think the most "solid" ones were Caitlyn and Tyler, who realized that kids raising kids is ridiculous and let a stable couple adopt their baby. I have so much more respect for them, for realizing this and UNSELFISHLY giving their kid a decent chance in life. |
Yes, his grandma is doing the best she can. But Janelle is always around and they are always yelling at each other, usually either about drugs or about Janelle being a shitty mom. You can't tell me that has no impact on the child. |
I agree 100%. |
I agree too - loved Caitlyn and Tyler; I was only thinking about the ones who are raising their own babies along with dealing with their own drama -- of that crew, Maci seemed the most "normal." |
I agree that Barb is doing the best she can with Jace, but keep in mind that she raised Jenelle so her track record is not great. And she is 60! I can't imagine. Ugh. |
But we don't really know how she raised Janelle. Janelle could just be a bad seed. I happens. All I'm saying is he kid has a chance; I wouldn't compare him to Bundy or Gacey just yet (if you've read, or even seen, the Blind Side, he's much better off than Michael Oher was at his age). Yeah, I don't envy Barb. But it's, unfortunately, not an uncommon story. |
I also keep watching this show and it is pretty depressing. But, I have to say I feel bad for these moms. Sure they are total idiots, but if I had had to make any good choices that impacted a child at age 17 lord help me! I keep remembering how completely immature teens are and I was, and above all, selfish, and desperately tied up in their own conflicts with parents. That is why I also feel bad for Janelle, her mom kind of created a monster by being pretty awful herself. |
+1 My best friend was a teen mom and 100% more reliable and mature than these women. I used to watch the show then lost interest after a couple seasons, but I did notice that there would be so much criticism towards the mothers and not the fathers, which I really disliked. There was the Dr. Drew reunion special I remember watching, and one of the moms was not with the father anymore and on the weekends she did not have her child, she would go out and party. She received much hate from Dr. Drew and the father for that, but I never saw the problem. The child wasn't with her when she went out, and I'm sure if the dad ha done the same, it wouldn't have been made to be as big a deal as it was. |
I agree, but after giving up their child for adoption, they still could not get their act together. I just did not understand that at all. |
Those two came from really, really messed up backgrounds. The fact that they ever graduated from high school at all and did it without criminal records is a goddamn miracle, even if it did take them a year longer than it should have. Both of their parents are drug and alcohol addicts and Tyler's father has been in and out of prison his whole life. They have done better for themselves than most kids in their position do. |
The arrests, etc are not scripted though. |
