If you live in a duplex or row house...

We live in a rowhouse in Warwick Village and this is our experience as well. We only very occasionally hear something like loud running up the stairs -- only if I happen to be on the stairs as well. Nothing loud enough to be bothersome whatsoever. They have a big dog, who we never hear.

The most noise we here comes from the outside.

Our house was built in the 50's.

PP here, I should also mention that most of the row houses in my neighborhood do have firewalls separating them. I think that helps a ton.

We're in a rowhouse. Never hear the neighbors on one side, sometimes hear the other neighbors going up the stairs on the other side. We are very loud (2 small kids that like to yell/sing, etc.) and the neighbors haven't complained yet.

We live in a 100+ yr old DC rowhouse. Don't hear anything. I was told by the guy who cut out a hole for our dryer to vent outside that the walls were 16" thick.
