Would you buy a house where a murder/suicide took place?

I'd be seriously pissed if a friend committed suicide in my house, thus reducing the property value. How rude.

My reaction as well.

What would be the logical reason to rule it out just because a murder-suicide occurred there?

Because when my kid is eating cheerios I don't want to wonder if he is in the spot where someone blew their head off. When I tuck him in at night I don't want to wonder if it is the room where someone came in and stabbed a child to death or whatever happened.

PP said the logical reason. This is not a logical reason. This is a "my anxiety controls me" reason.
Are you a sociopath? You need to do a better job of hiding it. Most of your fellow beings without souls do a better job of pretending. You win at the superiority complex, but you still fail. Do better next time. You shouldn't be detectable.

LOL! Not believing in ghosts makes me a sociopath?? You people are something else.

Would not bother me one iota.

What do the actions of a disturbed mother in relation to herself and her son have to do with the livability of the house? If you did not know the history of the house and after living there a couple of years found out about it would it make a difference?

We respect the dead by moving on with life, toots.

Is anyone else having DC real estate fantasies of telling people who died and how they died in their house so the crazies vacate them in terror leaving them for us to snatch up?

Signed, what passes for a sociopath around here.

To those who have a problem with living in such a house, would it make a difference if thirty years had elapsed since it happened? How many years would have had to have elapsed? How about if the house were razed and another one built on the same plot of land?

DCUMspeak

Being histrionic is "respect for the dead"

Not being histrionic is being a sociopath.

People. I have seen Poltergeist. I'm not interested in a pool full of zombies and children dissapearing into the closet forever.

Some of you live in houses where people were murdered and don't even know it

I worked in a place where there were two people had died (it was a large property and some offices were in what had previously been a private home). There were MANY stories about the ghosts and I did not believe them until one day I am quite sure I encountered one. Neither ghost (or spirit, whatever you prefer) ever hurt anyone but the house did have a feeling of great sadness at all times. Some people do not pick up on these things but others greatly do...if you are someone who does not pick up on the vibe of a house, buy it! It is really cute!

I'm sure the agent for this listing, and the current owners, are pissed at you right about now.

This story:

It's a really cute house, but I can't look past the history.

How'd you even know about the history? Unless you live close by, the rest of the gneral public would have forgotten.

People talk. Realtors, friends who remember the incident, etc.
