| I have two kids at Lafayette and I can say we have had terrible experiences with bullying. The school has not responded in an acceptable way. We have also had some terrible teachers and the school suffers from teachers who up and leave with little to no warning in the middle of the year. We are trying to figure out what to do since this doesn't seem to be working for our kids. |
| For the parents complaining about several issues with the school you can call central office. My child had a problem at her school and DCPS gave me a spot at another school after the Christmas break. |
| Take a look at schools with excellent leadership like Brent Elementary. Parents are active with the PTA because the PTA represents and communicates with the parents. The Lafayette HSA is a booster group for the principal.I am sorry the AP was fired. Maybe he questioned Ms. Main and got the boot. |

Last year there was cyber bullying at Lafayette. Everyone knows this to be a fact because Robo calls went out about addressing the issues.
Pretty bad for a school that only goes to grade 5! Our kids have learned two thing from Lafayette: 1) kids who continuously bully, cause trouble & constantly disrupt the class never get fair consequences. 2) Principal Main has no interest in hearing any of the problems they have with bullys. Great life lesson but unfortunate that kids Eleven and younger have to learn it.... |
| prospective Lafayette parent here. how can cyber bullying be going on at Lafayette? I have a 2nd grader at another school, and he has no access to any electronic tool to go online by himself (we let him watch cartoons and do a math website, but we are there too) and for sure he does not any Facebook or stuff like that (and I think this will be the situation until 5th grade). I can see this as a problem in MS and HS, but how this can happen in ES? |
| I don't think Ms. Main defines bullying the same way parents do. She values toughness over compassion even though I think she is personally quite sensitive. She's seen it all, or so she thinks, and parents today "don't have a clue." There is a generational divide between her and parents and there is little hope to bridge the gap. It's her school and she'll run it how she likes, parents be damned. |
I have a kid in 5th at Lafayette and I never heard anything about cyber bullying going on - guess I'm out of the loop. |
| it's weird...when I entered the OOB lottery four years ago Lafayette was my #1 choice. I was bummed it didn't work out. Flash forward, reading this stuff, I am so, so grateful. |
If I'm reading this correctly, you're saying that Brent parents are active and Lafayette parents are not active but instead are all yes-men for the principal. Is this a joke? |
| I hate when people throw around the word "bullying" without any specifics. This word has lost all of it's meaning - if your child has been bullied, at least let us know what you mean by that. |
The bullying referred to involved the same repeat offenders who punched multiple kids in the face and stomach, Kicked boys in the crotch, threw books at kids's heads from behind and voiced slurs regarding sexual orientation (faggot, gay, lesbo, homo). They preyed on many kids. Parents who approached school administration after their kids were Assaulted more than once were deemed to be overly protective and viewed as annoying. You know, Lafayette is an elementary school. The oldest kids are 11/12. Apparently, Ms. Main thinks these kids are cry babies and the patents who complain are a pain in the a**. The bullies continue their wrath because everyone makes excuses for them and the Consequences are non- existent. |

Exactly, poster 23:18.
This is our experience as well. It's been going on for 3 years and never ends. Why is this tolerated????? |
Without naming names, what sorts of kids are these? Older grades? Neighborhood kids? OOB kids? Friends with each other or solo bullies? You know, ms Main may not have done anything but I'd bet 7000 people at least scan dcum these days. May be useful to shine some partial sunshine on the antagonists |
Oh just say what you really mean. Are these poor kids? Black kids?? Certainly the bullies aren't the entitled local white kids!? Can't we just send the OOB bullies back to their own neighborhoods?? |
