I want to get a drink with you. |
OMG! Are you seriously comparing ear piercing to systmatic abuse of women?! Really??? |
| Look people, piercing a baby's ears is just weird. It's painful. The baby doesn't want it or know what is going on, it requires cleaning, etc. And maybe she will not want her ears pierced when she is older. Why make that choice FOR her? It's just WEIRD. I dont care if it's a cultural thing or not. In my culture, it's freaking WEIRD! |
I was totally waiting for the "mutilation" poster to get on this thread! Love the stupidity of the word mutilation in context of ear piercing (and I'm anti-piercing for young children). Here is the definition of the word mutilation: mu·ti·late [myoot-l-eyt] Show IPA verb (used with object), mu·ti·lat·ed, mu·ti·lat·ing. 1. to injure, disfigure, or make imperfect by removing or irreparably damaging parts: Vandals mutilated the painting. 2. to deprive (a person or animal) of a limb or other essential part. A tiny, pin dot hole is not disfigurment or removal of an appendage (this also applies to circumcision). |
Not at all. Just pointing out the flaw in PP's argument that because some backwards culture does something a certain way means it is acceptable. |
That is exactly what it is. Are you not an English speaker, PP? Or are you just an idiot? |
You aren't exactly comparing apples to oranges. You're point is quite a stretch. |
|
Yeah, I love the "but it's part of my culture" arguments.
If's it's that big a part of your "culture", you would already know a good time to get your baby's ears pierced because you would have noticed when your baby sisters, cousins, neighbors, friends, nieces, etc. got theirs done. If you still couldn't figure it out, you'd ask your mom, aunts, sisters, grandma, etc.--other people who share your culture. Not a message board full of people from a very diverse area, that mostly likely do not share your culture. |
| Waiting for someone to post about the appropriate time to add those gauge thingies to baby's ears... |
You just disproved your own point by posting that definition. Are you really that dense? You actually do sound like someone who would pierce their kid's ears. |
No it's not you idiot So when you see all the women out there with their ears pierced you think they have all been mutilated? I myself don't believe in piercing a babies ears. Hell I wouldn't even pierce an elementary school aged kid's ears. But to call it mutilation is so stupid and dramatic. And because someone is calling you on your hysteria they can't possibly be an English speaker? I was raised by an English professor btw.
|
Culture is not a defense. In some cultures, women aren't allowed to read. Does that mean it's okay to opress women? Just because some culture thinks it's cool? Of course not. Likewise "but it's my cultuuuuuure" is not a valid argument for damaging a baby's body without her consent. Same goes for circumcision, btw. |
Yes. It is, BY DEFINITION, mutilation. Ask your English professor parent. They will be dismayed that you don't get it. |
People's ears are not DISFIGURED when they get them pierced. You are not depriving someone of a limb. Oh and yeah you caught me. I'm actually taking my four year old DD out to get triple piercings tomorrow. Did you skip your meds or something? You are quite nuts about this. My DD won't be able to get her ears pierced until she's a teenager and that's my prerogative just as OP has the right to do what she wants. Why don't you just worry about your own kids. |
| I think it's the same crazy poster posting over and over again saying it's mutilation. It's the same over the top anger in each post. |
