All you need is one person pulling the names, a second person putting them into an excel spreadsheet, and by the time the lottery is over you're about 3 minutes from having it posted on the web.

Well, they for sure have to make sure that any siblings that are drawn during the lottery get admitted, or placed at the top of their respective waitlists. I assume they also have to do a QC check to make sure that every kid applied for the right year based on birthdate, make sure that nobody put their kid in the lottery more than once with slightly different names, etc. I'd rather have them double and triple check than make mistakes. What's the rush?

Exactly. As someone who has helped with the cross checking it can take hours to move all the siblings to the top of the lists, double check that they are actually siblings, then once you move a child to the top of the list because they are a sibling you have to shuffle everyone else down, format the lists, craft the email to families, do a massive mail merge for an email or mailing, cross check the mail merge, figure out which families need a Spanish specific email or have things translated, start calling families, etc. If it were 50 names it'd be a piece of cake but at my school it was over 2500. Have a little patience.
